Did you know that September is Chiari Awareness month in Michigan? |
This is an MRI of my Brain. I have a Neurological disorder called Arnold Chiari I Malformation.
Chiari Malformation is congenital defect, usually present at birth. It is considered to be a rare
disorder that affects about 300,000 people in the United States. Chiari essentially is caused by
overcrowding in the posterior fossa (back of the skull) which forces the cerebellum to press
through the Foramen Magnum (little hole in the skull where the spine comes through) This
creates pressure on the brain stem which can cause many problems, including Chronic pain
in the neck and headaches. In my case, in addition to these, I suffer numbness, weakness and tingling
in my arms and sometimes legs. Vision problems, Vertigo, dizzy spells, sleep disorder just to
mention a few. My diagnoses was devastating to me and very scary since I had never heard of this.
